Where should we go?

My parents are arriving on Friday, and they'll be here in Germany for ten days. During that time we'll travel through the Luther (and Bach) cities. Here is the list of cities that we plan to visit, as well as the major attractions. We won't make it to all the attractions listed below each city; we'll visit as many as we have time for. But I need your help! Is there anything I missed in a particular city that would be worth going to? I tried to do my research, but I'm sure I missed something. Feel free to comment below, or send me an email address by clicking my name to the right.

Also, if you know of any restaurants that you would recommend, I'm up for suggestions. Frankfurt is covered, but I haven't done a lot of research in where we're going to eat our main meal of the day.

  1. If you guys get a chance, swing by Magdeburg. I missed it when we went there. Flacius and the Gnesio-Lutheran brothers hid out in Magdeburg in protest of the so-called Leipzig Interim. I would have liked to see Hamburg too, but we never were able.

The Pergamum museum at Berlin is particularly awesome. Sasse was at St Mary's there, Paul Gerhardt was close by too. We did the Brandeburg Gate and everything up there. That was worth it. Alexander the Great's San Souci at Potsdam is very interesting if you can get there.

Leipzig is beautiful, but we only visited the Bach church/museum there. Don't miss the Spener church in Frankfurt.

A couple other cities we loved were Cologne and Aachen (incredible cathedrals), Trier, Nuremberg, Worms (Luther's Here I stand stuff), Augsburg and München.

Heidelberg would probably be fun for your parents. Luther had the famous disputation there, where he won over Johannes Brenz and Bucer to the Reformation. Mark Twain was in Heidelberg for a while, and has some funny accounts of that time. Pastor Wenz has a book about Twain learning German that you might enjoy reading, ask him about if he hasn't told you yet. The Philosopher's Way in Heidelberg was a good walk for us, and fantastic view of the castle and city. Don't forget Bad Homburg has a nice castle to visit if you need a lighter travel day, and Oberursel is really great for visitors. The Brauhaus makes a great Gaudi am Tisch and solid beer. Wow, good memories. Go to Pastor Martens' church in Berlin if you can. He will take good care of you and preach you the Gospel. Enjoy yourselves!
